Inspiration Behind Not of This World

Not of This World is a soul-searching reflection on the story of the rich man and Lazarus from Luke 16:19-31. It challenges us to look inward and ask: Am I living for this world, or for eternity?

Jesus told this parable to warn against selfishness, greed, and spiritual blindness. The rich man lived in comfort, ignoring the suffering of Lazarus at his gate. But in the end, their roles were reversed—Lazarus found rest in Abraham’s bosom, while the rich man faced eternal torment.

This song is a plea for humility, compassion, and a heart that reflects Christ. It reminds us that wealth, status, and earthly success mean nothing if we are blind to the needs of others and deaf to God’s call. True riches are found in loving God and loving our neighbor, in dying to self daily and living for the Kingdom.

Not of This World is a cry for God to change our hearts—to break our attachment to worldly things, to make us generous, selfless, and Kingdom-minded. It is a call to live differently, to see beyond this fleeting life, and to fix our eyes on what truly matters—eternity with Jesus.

Lyrics

I see the gates, tall and wide,
A house of gold where the wealthy hide.
They feast and laugh while a man outside,
Fades into the night unseen.

I hear the call, a voice so near,
“Sell it all, there’s more to gain here.”
Yet my hands still hold what fades away,
Oh, Lord, don’t let me walk away.

Strip me of pride, break me apart,
Give me a humble and willing heart.
Let me love like You have loved,
Make me rich in things above.

I don’t wanna be like them,
Blind to mercy, deaf to pain.
Let me see, let me give,
Let me live for something greater.
Not for riches, not for fame,
But for the glory of Your name.
Lord, take my hands, take my life,
Let me die to self tonight.

The rich man smiled, clothed in pride,
Lazarus longed for just one bite.
But the tables turned, the time ran out,
And mercy couldn’t hear his shout.

Oh, what will I hold when my breath is gone?
Will I have treasures or have I lost it all?
Help me live for what will last,
Not the dust that fades so fast.

I don’t want to gain the world and lose my soul,
I don’t want my heart to turn so cold.
Jesus, shake me, wake me, break me,
Let Your love remake me.
Let me die so You can rise,
Shine Your kingdom through my life.

I don’t wanna be like them,
Blind to mercy, deaf to pain.
Let me see, let me give,
Let me live for something greater.
Not for riches, not for fame,
But for the glory of Your name.
Lord, take my hands, take my life,
Let me die to self tonight.

Take my silver, take my gold,
Nothing matters but my soul.
Let me live to love and serve,
For Your kingdom, not this world.
